Penang, Malaysia – June 11, 2019 – Vygon Asia today announces that it has donated 50 Vygon Polysite ISP implantable ports for patients undergoing chemotherapy at the Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital under the One Port One Life program.

Vygon’s Polysite ISP port is usually offered when a patient’s medical treatment requires regular administration of medicines and infusions, such as cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. During the procedure veins can undergo thinning, which means that locating veins to inject medicine and draw blood can become very difficult, even for qualified medical personnel. Without the help of chemo ports, repeated jabbing might be inevitable for locating these very thin veins. Chemo ports are a pain-free and efficient solution for addressing this issue.

“We believe it is of the utmost importance to support local hospitals whose mission is to treat underprivileged cancer patients with the latest technology otherwise unaffordable to them,” said Thanapathy Kumaraiah, regional director, Asia-Oceanic at Vygon. “Vygon is committed to working with other hospitals, not only in Malaysia but in the whole region.”

“Thanks to Vygon’s donation, for the first time this hospital is able to offer free chemo ports for underprivileged patients without having to tap into its Needy Cancer Patients Fund. Support from Vygon will help us to leverage our charitable mission in providing optimal cancer care for the underprivileged group,” said Joan Lim-Choong, chief executive officer of Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital.

“We are thrilled to launch this One Port One Life program in Asia to support health centres and hospitals in the region. In addition to oncology or neonatal product donations, we are also committed to providing adequate training to healthcare practitioners for a better patients’ outcome”, added Christophe Deffontaines, VP Asia, Vygon.
